Job Title: Director of Grants

Reports to: Vice President

FLSA Status: Exempt

The Healthcare Foundation of Wilson seeks a personable, detail-oriented, quick learner to join the team. The Director of Grants will lead grant management for Healthcare Foundation of Wilson, which includes managing grants awarded to qualifying organizations in the Wilson community. A key component to the role is ensuring grantee compliance and overseeing the reporting process for grants issued during each grant cycle. The position will include administrative work, maintenance of records, filing, and performing due diligence for all applicants to ensure all requirements are met. This is a full-time position that reports to the Vice President.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Grants Management

  • Manage workflows for grant applications and grant processes to ensure responsive and timely decisions in collaboration with the Vice President.
  • Review grantee reports and modification requests.
  • Analyze the information presented during the pre-award and post-award stages, following up on missing items, identifying, and addressing questions or concerns.
  • Identify and review appropriate supporting documentation to verify grantee programmatic outcomes.
  • Analyze potential grants for impact and fit within focus areas.
  • Perform required due diligence of applicants and grantees, including tax status and fiscal review, prior to circulation for approval.
  • Provide technical assistance to grantees and applicants regarding compliance and the online grant system.
  • Maintain database/software with grantee records and prepare grantee notifications of grant approvals or declinations.
  • Submit grant payment requests and budget revisions to the Vice President.
  • Support the Vice President with outcome reports and analysis based on grantee documentation.
  • Work with the Vice President on researching, scheduling, and performing site visits with grantees for the purpose of monitoring project activity and collecting outcome data to document project results.
  • Manage relationships with grantees.
  • Identify and make recommendations to resolve grantee issues.
  • Review reported expenditures from grant reports to approved budget line items.
  • Develop reporting measurements for grantees.
  • Participate and support HFW events and board meetings.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the economic challenges and opportunities of Wilson and North Carolina’s rural economy.
  • Be able to effectively communicate and manage relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Adhere to and understanding HIPAA compliance, confidentiality, and conflict of interest.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Scholarship Management

  • Manage workflows for scholarship applications to ensure responsive and timely decisions in collaboration with the Vice President.
  • Review scholarship applications, extracting key data to share to HFW staff and board.
  • Coordinate scholarship presentations at all Wilson County Schools high schools.
  • Report application or process changes as need to the Vice President.

Communications

  • Maintain HFW website.
  • Maintain social networking communications, posting weekly on each platform.
  • Grow the size of the online audiences on each social platform.
  • Create online and print versions of quarterly e-newsletter, online grantmaking campaigns and impact reports.
  • Design flyers, posters, pamphlets, and other materials relevant to HFW activities and programs.
  • Track metrics from website and online audiences and make recommendations for change when necessary.
  • Ensure organizational adherence to brand and style guidelines on HFW platforms as well as via grantee announcements.
  • Issue press releases when appropriate.
  • Work with consulting firms, when needed on communication plans.
  • Collect and organize photos and photo releases for HFW use.
  • Create opportunities for the community to learn more about HFW by attending community events, participating on committees, etc.
  • Create and circulate relevant reports and data to both internal and external audiences.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of two to four years of experience in a nonprofit or foundation sector.
  • Familiarity with grants management and databases preferred.
  • Must be organized, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional writing and technology skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of common software programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, and the ability to learn to use a grants management system (Foundant Grant Management Software).
  • Attention to detail is imperative.
  • Proficient with social media platforms, photography, and design software.
  • Demonstrate ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative.
  • Understand how to prioritize and accurately complete multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience of working under deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Experience of working in a team-oriented environment.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in healthcare grant making and fundraising preferred.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professional conduct, integrity, and honesty.
  • Customer-service oriented.
  • Experience with reviewing financial forms and agreements.
  • A commitment to quality in all aspects of work.

Working Conditions:

  • Professional office atmosphere.
  • Position is based at the Healthcare Foundation of Wilson Offices.
  • Employee must be a Wilson resident or willing to relocate to reside in Wilson County.
  • Local travel required.
  • Must be available to work during the evenings for scheduled events.
  • Must have a valid North Carolina driver’s license with an automobile for daily work.
  • A criminal background screening is required.

Compensation and Benefits:
The Director of Grants is a full-time, professional position. The starting salary is commensurate with experience, which will be vetted through the interview process.
