WILSON, N.C. (May 11, 2026) –
Our Responsive Grant is our largest annual funding opportunity, allowing eligible organizations to apply for support to develop programs and services aligned with our four focus areas.
Wilson County DSS, a 2025 Responsive Grant recipient, was awarded funding to support its “Resilient Family Connections” initiative. This program is designed to strengthen family stability by reducing Child Protective Services (CPS) involvement and preventing foster care placements.
Through this funding, the department enhanced staff capacity by obtaining certifications in AF-CBT (Alternatives for Families: A Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and AFP (Active Family Parenting), both evidence-based, trauma-informed, and family-centered treatment models that promote healthier relationships between children and caregivers.
Additionally, DSS established two dedicated family therapy rooms to support live coaching and therapeutic sessions in a structured environment. These spaces enable families to actively engage in services and build stronger connections. Each room is equipped with camera monitoring, a two-way mirror, and listening devices, enabling therapists to provide real-time feedback and clinical support.
About the Healthcare Foundation of Wilson
The Healthcare Foundation of Wilson is a public foundation that was established in February 2014 when Wilson Medical Center was purchased by Duke LifePoint Healthcare. The assets received from the sale, as well as prior hospital reserves, provide the funding for the grants awarded and many of the physical improvements to the hospital. The Foundation’s mission is to invest in collaborative efforts that influence and measurably improve the health and wellness of the greater Wilson community. Since the first grants were issued in 2016, over $70 million dollars have been expended. The Foundation remains committed to creating a healthier Wilson community and looks forward to more collaborative partnerships in the future.
