WILSON, N.C. (May 11, 2026) – The Responsive Grant is the Healthcare Foundation of Wilson’s largest annual funding opportunity, allowing eligible organizations to apply for support to develop programs and services aligned with its four focus areas.

Wilson County EMS, a 2025 Responsive Grant recipient, received funding to enhance critical prehospital care. The grant supported the purchase of video laryngoscopes, POCUS ultrasound machines, the HandTevy mobile medical protocol system, and whole blood, allowing for lifesaving blood transfusions while in the field.

Wilson County EMS is proud to be among fewer than 25% of agencies in North Carolina equipped to carry whole blood — and the only prehospital EMS provider in the region offering this advanced, lifesaving capability. Whole blood allows paramedics to begin transfusions in the field, helping replace lost blood more effectively and improving survival for patients experiencing severe bleeding.

About the Healthcare Foundation of Wilson

The Healthcare Foundation of Wilson is a public foundation that was established in February 2014 when Wilson Medical Center was purchased by Duke LifePoint Healthcare. The assets received from the sale, as well as prior hospital reserves, provide the funding for the grants awarded and many of the physical improvements to the hospital. The Foundation’s mission is to invest in collaborative efforts that influence and measurably improve the health and wellness of the greater Wilson community. Since the first grants were issued in 2016, over $70 million dollars have been expended. The Foundation remains committed to creating a healthier Wilson community and looks forward to more collaborative partnerships in the future.
