Healthcare Foundation of Wilson Launches First Cohort of Interns for Impact
WILSON, N.C. (June 10 , 2026) – The Healthcare Foundation of Wilson is pleased to announce the launch of Interns for Impact, a college internship program connecting students with local nonprofit organizations for a summer of professional growth and community service.
The program kicked off in June with a “Meet Your Match” luncheon, giving participants the opportunity to meet their cohort peers and the nonprofit partners they will support throughout the summer. Students entered the program through a competitive application process that included an online application and interviews. Each student was then matched with a nonprofit organization aligned with their future career interests.
Over the next eight weeks, interns will participate in Professional Development sessions hosted by the Foundation each Monday, while spending the remainder of the week gaining hands-on experience at their assigned organizations.
The Healthcare Foundation of Wilson looks forward to an impactful summer as these students develop professionally, deepen their community ties, and contribute meaningfully to the nonprofit sector in Wilson County.
About the Healthcare Foundation of Wilson
The Healthcare Foundation of Wilson is a public foundation that was established in February 2014 when Wilson Medical Center was purchased by Duke LifePoint Healthcare. The assets received from the sale, as well as prior hospital reserves, provide the funding for the grants awarded and many of the physical improvements to the hospital. The Foundation’s mission is to invest in collaborative efforts that influence and measurably improve the health and wellness of the greater Wilson community. Since the first grants were issued in 2016, over $70 million dollars have been expended. The Foundation remains committed to creating a healthier Wilson community and looks forward to more collaborative partnerships in the future.
