HFW Healthcare Career Scholarship Program

Healthcare Foundation of Wilson established the Healthcare Career Scholarship Program to help Wilson, NC public high school students who have an interest in the healthcare profession. Each high school in Wilson County will have the ability to award one student with a $1,000 scholarship. The student must be a graduating senior who will attend any North Carolina community college, college, or university for a major related to a healthcare career.

How to Apply

Recipients of the scholarship will be selected by a committee at each high school with the understanding that any nominee must meet all eligibility criteria. Scholarship recipient information must be submitted by the school’s scholarship committee by the application deadline. No individual applications are reviewed by the Foundation.

For more information, students should speak with their high school guidance counselor for information about applying, requirements, and deadlines.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible recipients must meet the following criteria:

  • Current senior graduating in the current school year from a school in Wilson County.
  • Accepted into a community college, college, or university in North Carolina.
  • Plans to be a full-time student.
  • Demonstrated scholastic achievement with a 3.0 or higher unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Has intentions to study a major that will yield a healthcare related profession upon graduation.
  • Exhibited leadership, positive character, and community involvement.
  • Filed Federal Student Aid Application (FAFSA).
  • Recipients cannot be an immediate family member of a board member or staff member of the Healthcare Foundation of Wilson. (i.e. child, sibling, grandchild)

  • Sallie B. Howard School
  • Wilson Academy of Applied Technology
  • Wilson Christian Academy
  • Wilson Early College Academy
  • Wilson Preparatory Academy

Scholarship Program Timeline

February 1 – March 14

Schools select the recipient for their site

By March 15

Schools submit the information on their top candidate

April – May

Healthcare Foundation staff member presents scholarships at Awards Day

4th Wednesday in July

Recipients are invited to attend our board meeting
